Brand Table: NFC Technology to Order Food
NFC (Near Field Communication) technology is being used for mobile payments and today Springwise covered a Taxi company utilizing the technology to help commuters pay for their journeys. But how can NFC be pushed further into adaptation for daily use? How about ordering food at your local food court! Stephen Davis, a University of Sydney student, has developed an idea where-by users can complete simple transactions at tables of restaurants or food courts and order food quickly and easily.
NFC stickers are embedded onto table-tops of your local eatery and user’s can then tap them with their devices, pull up a menu, place an order and make the purchase without having to get out of their seats. The project has been dubbed: Brand Table, and was initially intended for use in food courts, where line-ups may be long and finding / holding a table could be a problem as well. But we think this application could be utilized in any restaurant to make ordering easier and possibly less personable. Check out the video above to see Brand Table in action.
