TouchFire

Until now there hasn’t been a keyboard that was as slick, light-weight and useful as the iPad itself. The TouchFire keyboard brings the brilliance of using the iPad as a writing application to life without the additional bulk that accompanies other iPad keyboards on the market today.

They highly experienced and well accomplished team of Steve Isaac and Brad Melmon had a difficult task when attempting to put together a useful keyboard for the iPad: The keys needed to allow for resting of the fingers to type naturally, while still being ultra-thin to live on the iPad’s cover and not interfere with usability / aesthetics. This was accomplished by inserting micro-structures that you can’t feel, inside each key to support resting of fingers on the home-row keys. The keyboard is also fully transparent, so you can continue to see what is beneath at all times, or you can simply roll the keyboard down when you’re done typing away because of its flexible manufacturing.

The KickStarter project is currently looking for funding to enable the first production run, in order to bring the TouchFire to market. And for KickStarter supporters you can obtain ($80 pledge):

  • Two TouchFire keyboards, one black and one white
  • Two storage cases
  • 5 pairs of cover clips in colors that complement the iPad Smart Covers

The TouchFire is an amazing accomplishment and by being as thin as a nickel you will never notice it’s there. The market really needed a keyboard for the iPad; Isaac and Brad have brought an ingenious product that could be a laptop killer for typists. The team has already risen over $100,000 via KickStarter and hopefully it will be accessible to everyone at their neighborhood Apple store in the near future.
