Music Video Genome

Music Video Genome

Developed during last week’s hackday.tv, a 24 hour video hackday, Casey Pugh started the Music Video Genome aiming to be The Pandora of Music Videos. Powered by VHX, users search for any artist in any genre and the platform generates a personalized music video channel structured around the user’s selection.

The project is in early stages of development and requires community assistance to grow, but this ambitious project could be the hub for your favorite music videos (sourced from YouTube and Vimeo). Pugh is relying on the community to help filter out videos that aren’t actually the video. Sometimes on YouTube searches yield simply cover art with lyrics and not the actual video. Users are asked to flag these videos and also recommend an alternative to store in order to story only correct matches in the database.

It would be interesting if this idea could spur other ideas, such as developing a similar project just for concert videos? There may be stumbling blocks for the Music Video Genome project in the future, but the ambition to be the Pandora of music videos is inspiring.
