Cribb Is Turning Empty Houses Into Code Schools

October 7, 2015 by Tim

Cribb is an Atlanta based code school where students live together and let the teacher come to them. By living with fellow students in an awesome Cribb, they hope to create a unique environment that other bootcamps simply can’t offer. Crib offers some pretty sweet amenities like free rent, private chef, ping pong, mini keg, and more.

Program

Learn Swift at Cribb’s 12 week iOS Bootcamp.

Week 1– Move into your new house, meet your roommates, and get an introduction to the iOS Development Ecosystem (Xcode, Swift, Cocoa Touch). Next, go over object oriented programming basics and learn the Swift vocabulary and syntax. Start using the Xcode Playground to get a feel for Swift.

Week 2– Continue to gain knowledge on the Swift language as well as advanced concepts in Swift including collections, algorithms, modules, loops, and memory management. Master the usage of constants, variables, enums, structs, and classes.

Week 3– Practice using Xcode and the iPhone simulator. Learn how to debug your app with Xcode debugger. Learn MVC ideologies as well as asynchronous programming. Learn design basics and how create a UI. Create a wire-frame, draw mockups, and start making apps.

Week 4– Work with a teammate and build your first simple application using Swift. Get experience with paired programming. You will continue to learn more about the MVC infrastructure as well as table views, collection views, the navigation stack, and data storage options.

Weeks 5–8Students will create 4 apps from start to finish in 4 weeks, so roughly 1 app a week. This will be a chance for the students to get hands on experience while following along with the professor. These apps will incorporate various APIs, pre-built iOS frameworks, and concepts such as maps, media, images, animations, etc.

Weeks 9-12 The last 4 weeks is where the students take what they have learned and come up with their own app to make and focus solely on that. They can work with a team or by themselves. Your teachers and classmates will be there to help out every step of the way.
