In a few sentences, tell us what your start-up is all about!:
Legal Services Link is a leading online platform that streamlines the process for researching and hiring an attorney, while also helping attorneys develop new clients. It replaces the traditional, time-consuming, and frustrating process for hiring an attorney with a centralized and efficient, online process, allowing individuals and businesses with legal needs to quickly post short summaries of their needs to the site, which are then emailed to the appropriate attorneys for review and consideration.
Attorneys interested in satisfying those legal needs then submit short applications directly to the clients—for their review and acceptance. Legal Services Link’s mission is to close the “justice gap” one client at a time.
When was your startup founded? And what stage is your startup currently at?:
Legal Services Link was founded in May 2015. We now have proof of concept and are seeking funding.
Let us know a bit about your team, who are the key team members and what is their role?:
Matthew Horn – President & Co-Founder: Matthew Horn is a Co-Founder of Legal Services Link. As a practicing attorney that spent years hiring and referring clients to other attorneys, Matthew gained unique insight into the challenges that people and businesses with legal needs encountered when trying to connect with attorneys.
He launched Legal Services Link with the intention of overhauling and modernizing the legal hiring process, creating an online forum where people and businesses with legal needs and attorneys can quickly and easily connect, exchange information, and enter into engagements. Matthew is a frequent speaker and author on various legal topics. He holds a BS in Accounting from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a JD from The John Marshall Law School.
Ryan Caltagirone – Vice President & Co-Founder: Ryan Caltagirone is a Co-Founder of Legal Services Link. Ryan has been on the management side in the brokerage, client development, and sales industries for well over a decade, establishing and overseeing sales teams in a number of consumer-driven markets.
He helped launch Legal Services Link with the intention of creating a more consumer-friendly legal hiring process and a more attorney-focused client development tool. Ryan has served on numerous Leadership and Advisory Boards in the insurance and sales industries. He holds a BS in Finance from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
If applicable, what is your growth like? And what milestones has your startup achieved so far?:
Legal Services Link continues to grow with a database of nearly 400 attorneys and 300 client members. We are now a member of the 1871 Chicago Tech Incubator and have forged partnerships with the national Military Spouse JD Network and a number of attorney “incubators”.
Why did you choose this particular idea and concept to build your start-up on?:
I discovered the need for Legal Services Link when I was seeking an attorney to help me with my estate planning needs. Through that process, I learned that the process for searching and finding the perfect attorney is just as difficult and time-consuming as it is for attorneys to find and get hired by new clients–making the industry ripe for a platform.
Do you have any customer feedback on your product and/or service that you could share?:
Client testimonial: “I recently needed an attorney to help with both my estate planning and property tax assessment needs. I simply posted a quick, anonymous description of my projects to the site, and that same day, received multiple applications from interested attorneys. The applications were routed through the site, so I didn’t have attorneys calling me directly. I quickly reviewed the applications, and contacted the two attorneys that looked like the best fit for me.
