Planter Box: A Monthly Surprise that just Keeps Growing

April 13, 2016 by Tim

Last Updated on July 28, 2017 by Tim

Let’s meet Startup, Planter Box:

Website: www.planter-box.com

In a few sentences, tell us what your start-up is all about!:

Planter Box is a monthly subscription box for succulents, featuring different products to help you build and maintain your very own mini succulent garden. We provide three key items in every box: plants, a pottery, and soil/decorative rocks. Every month, subscribers can expect hand-picked items with details on what plants they get and simple care instructions. For those who just aren’t ready to commit we also offer the ability to purchase one-off boxes.

When was your startup founded? And what stage is your startup currently at?:

Our startup was founded very recently and we are in our early stages of crowdfunding. Having launched our Kickstarter this past Monday (11/28) we’re currently working on generating awareness and getting people familiar with the idea of Planter Box.

Let us know a bit about your team, who are the key team members and what is their role?:

Planter Box is currently made up of our founders and one other key marketer. They share one thing in common and it’s that they are all alumni from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Neha and Ashlee, the founders, are drivers of the Planter Box product. Their roles include hand-picking each monthly box’s items to how each box will be packaged up.

Michelle is focusing on building up the company’s social media presence and building up the Planter Box community. Together, they are all responsible for giving their followers a daily chuckle with really bad puns.

If applicable, what is your growth like? And what milestones has your startup achieved so far?:

Our team has been working on establishing relationships with various suppliers (mainly nurseries at the moment). We want gather as many vendors as we can so that we can pick from a wide variety of plants and source the best to our customers.

With our funding we would be working to build a website where we can create a better forum for our consumers to engage on. We’re sure that there are many people with tips and great ideas so fostering a great community for planters is at the top of our to-do list.

Why did you choose this particular idea and concept to build your start-up on?:

Going outside of Planter Box, both founders lead very fast paced lives working at tech companies in San Francisco and for us, taking a moment to take care of our plants or even put an arrangement together is a moment that we take for ourselves. We loved the idea of subscription boxes being a little “treat yo self” type of thing and we wanted to bring a little more life to the traditional subscription boxes.

Our business was built on the idea of giving people a moment for themselves, take a breather. Which is why we chose succulents specifically as our main plant of choice. They require less care and we want our subscribers to feel inspired or even a sense of calmness when they’re caring for their succulent garden. We really wanted to stray away from the idea that this is yet another thing that people have to take care of.

Are you looking for funding or are you open to partnership opportunities, and if so, what’s the best way for people to get in contact with you?:

Yes and yes! We are looking for both funding and any partnership opportunity that may be appropriate. Please visit our Kickstarter page listed above to check out more about our project and campaign.

For partnership opportunities, please reach out to use at [email protected] Some things that would interest us include any items that would be appropriate for our monthly boxes or interesting plant related content.
