Startup Review – Arbi: Augmented Reality made easy

March 22, 2017 by Tim

Last Updated on August 17, 2017 by Tim

Let’s meet Startup, Arbi: Augmented Reality made easy.

Website: www.arbi.io

In a few sentences, tell us what your startup is all about!:

Arbi is an Augmented Reality CMS allowing people to upload their own 3D models and use them in Augmented Reality. Arbi is compatible with 3D software and requires no SDK or software or coding. Just upload & go. This way we are making AR accessible for anyone working with 3D software and anyone wishing to use AR in a cost-effective & easy way.

When was your startup founded? And what stage is your startup currently at?:

January 2017. We’re launching Beta in May 2017.

Let us know a bit about your team, who are the key team members?:

I am the founder of Arbi. I’m an ex-strategy consultant and sold my first startup last year in 2016. The second member is a project manager from KLM who was charged with test-driving all new innovations for KLM. Then we have our 2 developers and a project manager with deep expertise in AR.

If applicable, what is your growth like? And what milestones has your startup achieved so far?:

Post-beta we will be working hard on developing & validating our vision beyond the basic functionality of Arbi. Our users will be vital in determining this direction. This is mainly, because nobody knows still how AR will develop in the future. Our key milestone is that we have been able to put together a beta-version in around 3 months and we’re looking to attract a 1.000 Beta-users.

Why did you choose this particular idea and concept to build your startup on?:

I have been following VR/AR trends for a while, but nothing drew my attention in terms of user cases. Most were very content-driven and niche-based such as AR books or AR educational materials. Since I like concepts that offer a mainstream user case, I started looking more into the workflows and processes to generate AR experiences. That’s when I realized that instead of offering tailor-made content, we offer a delivery platform and let users create their own 3D content. We just facilitate delivery & more tailor-made templates to apply AR. Our aim is to become somewhat of a WordPress of AR, but don’t hold me on this one yet, since it might change in the future.

Do you have any customer feedback on your product and/or service that you could share?:

So far the early demo’s were shared and used by 3d designers, architects and a packaging manufacturer. And they all thought it was very cool and interesting to use, mainly because it fits in their existing workflow and infrastructure. Most people don’t know much about AR, but find its application very cool. However, if you start explaining them SDK’s and such, they lose interest. But with Arbi it’s a matter of exporting and uploading. So the workflow is very simple.

Are you looking for funding or are you open to partnership opportunities, and if so, what’s the best way for people to get in contact with you?:

I’m open to funding and/or partnership opportunities provided that people carry a high dose of flexibility. Best way to contact me is via mail on [email protected]
